After being semi-handicapped the last two weeks, I have come to some conclusions.
(For those of you that don’t know, I managed to severely sprain not one but both ankles while walking down not a flight of stairs but three of them. That’s right, just three steps. I’m just skilled like that, I guess. I really must come up with a better story. I’m taking suggestions so feel free to comment below.)
1) Having a ramp does not, by any means, make something handicap accessible.
2) The phrase “My classes are all close to each other” is much more relative than one might think.
3) My school is full of very considerate students and faculty
4) If I have to keep using crutches for very long, I’ll eventually look like a body builder.
Until now I’d never really given much thought to being handicapped. I wasn’t completely inconsiderate, but I didn’t realize quite how challenging some things are when you have limited mobility. Some things have really left me quite puzzled from an engineering standpoint.
1) Why is the ADA accessible entrance to Engineering South on the complete opposite end from the elevator?
2) Why would you put the only ADA accessible bathroom for women on the fourth floor of a building?
3) Whose idea was it to put unnecessarily heavy doors on a bathroom in a dorm that is equipped with an ADA accessible shower?
4) Do double doors really need a divider down the middle when each door isn’t very wide to begin with?
I have decided when I am a civil engineer in the near future, if I have to build something that has to be ADA accessible, I’m definitely getting in a wheelchair and trying it all myself first.
On a slightly related note, I have come to some more conclusions after looking at my oh-so-beautiful paint masterpieces above.
1) I don’t have a future in graphic design if the whole engineer thing doesn’t pan out
2) My hair isn’t red… why did I do that?
3) I apparently don’t think I have any facial features
Great post! I typed a much longer comment earlier but lost it when I couldn’t remember my password. My finger is tired of pecking on my phone now. Ha!
Hope you heal quickly. Bum deal.
Thanks!
And I know the feeling. Many long-winded posts and texts have been reduced when they had to be retyped and I didn’t have the gumption to do it all over again lol
You are quite humorous… I could use this stuff in a sermon
Thank you 🙂
You have my permission! lol
