Today while driving through my neighborhood I saw quite the sight. (Please excuse my rhyme this one time. Oh wait…) Anyways, when I turned the corner to leave this morning to teach swim lessons, there was a boy around 11 years old riding his bike down the middle of the street. You may be wondering in what freaky world I live that I think this was something worth noting. Well, in that case, just keep reading.
This wasn’t your normal bike ride. He had his headphones in as he took this little trip. “Come on, Heidi. It’s 2012. Kids listening to music on the go is nothing special. See it all the time.” I know, I know. BUT, how often do you see an 11 year old riding his bike listening to music while riding with no hands and playing an air guitar? I’m also pretty sure his eyes were closed when I first rounded the corner, but that I can’t be sure of.
My first reaction was to
roll my eyes and move to the other side of the road to avoid hitting him and then roll my eyes. But then, he got me to thinking. Oh, don’t worry, I didn’t run the poor guy down. My first reaction was promptly executed and then I got to thinking.
Why can’t we all have that kind of zest for life? Where, my dear reader, has our youthful pizzazz gone?
Here is my challenge to you: Go out and do something with a new flair. Add a personal touch to the otherwise perfunctory and mundane.
Perhaps the first thing on my list will be using my favorite vocabulary word from senior year in a blog post otherwise lacking in upper-level adjectives. “Perfunctory” for the win! Or maybe not… that’s still a little lame. If you come up with something noteworthy to spice things up with in your life, leave me a comment!
